"But does it actually work?"

Isn't it just placebo?

Homeopathy works on infants who can't expect anything — and on animals. One hot summer day our chickens were dropping from heatstroke; I spritzed a remedy in their beaks, and every one but the first survived. A placebo doesn't save a barn full of birds.

Is it safe?

Remarkably so. Remedies are gentle enough for prenatal through old age. As my midwife put it: if it's not the energy your body needs, it simply passes through, with no side effects. If it's the right one, it helps.

Sounds a little like witchcraft?

A pastor once said that to me, mostly kidding — until he got poison ivy across his face. He emailed me, desperate. One remedy, and the next day: "You are a life saver!!! The swelling is going down already." He changed his mind.

I've tried it and it didn't work.

Usually that means the right remedy in the wrong form, or the wrong remedy entirely. This is exactly what the book fixes: how to choose, how to dose, and how to tell within minutes whether it's working.
